An analytical project about the landscape that has been altered both aesthetically and socially by a resource-based economy. Going far beyond visual boundaries of post-Soviet, this series is a poetic engagement with harsh reality left behind by a state-planned economy and, later, a crony capitalism. Rooted in documentary, this work explores themes of local identity, place, and social life in the wake of an excessive industrialisation and an inevitable deindustrialisation. The work focuses on Russian mid-sized resource towns and how they attempt to interact with their industrial legacy.
